Work Performed
Relined 4m of 375mm concrete sewer line that had two large holes in the top and side for Urban Utilities, the government department in charge of the Sewers throughout Brisbane.

One of Brisbane’s major arterial routes, Church Street, was collapsing gradually causing major  disruptions in the city.

Benefits
This is a major sewer line that runs under one of Brisbane’s busiest arterial routes. The holes in the pipe were causing the road to collapse into the pipe, hence causing significant delays to motorists. This in turn was leading to stress in the maintenance sections as discussions were had on how the road could be excavated. The Nuflow solution would take only one evening, which wouldn’t hold up any traffic through peak hours. It would be significantly cheaper and safer than traditional excavation, and is a permanent repair.

The Sewer Reline
We were contacted after a robotic camera inspection confirmed the problem as being two large holes in this pipe, separated by an incoming 100mm junction from a local business. Nuflow immediately reacted to this urgent call and began customising bladders and making arrangements for the sewerage to be diverted. The first problem was a hole approximately 16m in from the manhole and was a substantial size at nearly 1m long, to rehabilitate the pipe structure we installed a thicker liner. This first hole was so close to the incoming junction that we lined over it to stop it becoming a problem in the future. We then had a robotic cutter, reinstate the junction. The second hole was a further 3m down the line and was much simpler to cover.

All works were conducted at night, with limited traffic control, and the project was completed prior to peak hour traffic.

Alternatives
The only alternative to relining would have been to excavate the area and replace the damaged sections of pipe. This would have involved closing the road for a long period of time causing major disruptions and significant traffic problems for motorists and surrounding businesses.
