Work Performed 15m reline of 300mm Reinforced Concrete Storm Water Pipe for Gold Coast City Council.
Benefits Due to the quantity of rain we had endured over several months a large sinkhole had developed in the road. Every time it rained the road sunk a little more, more bitumen was poured into the hole in the road, which eventually sunk into the pipe. Relining meant no excavation, and therefore no road closures. What we accomplished in one work day, would have taken several days to excavate, repair and replace the road, gutters and driveways.
The road was constantly sink-holing into the pipe, this meant being patched after every time it rained.
After viewing the CCTV footage, there was a substantial hole 12m in from the manhole. Not only was the sinkhole in the middle of a road, but there were two large electrical conduits clearly visible, crossing directly over the top of the pipe. There was root intrusion and a large amount of bitumen in the pipe which had intruded from the sinkhole above. Nuflow high pressure jet cleaned the pipe and re-inspected the line before commencing the reline.
The 15m x 300mm pipe Reline This liner was carried out using a Fast Cure resin over two 8m liners. The job was completed within 10 hours, with most of the residents not knowing we had even attended the job.
Alternatives An alternative to the relining of this project would be to excavate and repairing it the conventional way. This would have resulted in the need to close a section of the road, blocking off residential driveways, and several days of noise and mess for the duration of the repair. Additional infastructure services may have been required at the time of the repair due to an electrical mains and communication conduits which were more than likely going to become affected. Using the Nuflow relining method to carry out this repair ensured that any inconvenience was kept to a minimum, that the root intruded areas were sealed and that the structural repair would stop the need for the road to be patched every time it rained.
