Work Performed 3m reline patch in a 100mm Earthenware sewer pipe.
Benefits Saving up to $16,000.00 off the lowest price quoted for a traditional repair, with no shut down required as Nuflow was able to keep the sewer online through the public bar’s busy period.
One of the oldest hotels in Australia, Hotel Broadway is a heritage listed building. The Hotel’s toilets were backing up and would regularly overflow causing problems for patrons, staff and the owners.
After carrying out the initial CCTV inspection, we were able to identify the problem as being a badly broken and displaced joint right beside a junction, and a length of root intruded pipe running from the cellar out into the hotel car park. The issue of sewerage overflow was made worse as the waste from the main bar entered the same sewer line. The line required high pressure jetting to unblock and clean and then relining in order to repair it.
The Sewer Reline Access to the sewer line was difficult as inspection openings were located in the cellar under the main bar. The line itself was attached to the floor joists of the bar, making it difficult to gain a point of access and a hole was eventually cut into the top of the line to allow for the works. Once this access hole was cut, a plug was inserted up stream so that we could work in the line without taking the toilets off line. The liner was inserted, and three hours later the bladder was removed leaving a line that was better than new. The Hotel was in operation during the reline process and no one was aware the repair was taking place.
Alternatives An alternative to relining would have been to excavate the area and replace the pipe. This would have involved closing the hotel for the duration of the repair works, dismantling a large section of the new wooden deck, excavating a trench from the hotel out into the car park and extracting the existing line from the cellar wall. These works would have caused major disruption to the hotel staff and patrons and would have resulted a significant loss in revenue.
